Blind Pilot…lack of pun needed for title of blog post
Ever since their earth-shattering performance at SXSW (see NPR link below), Blind Pilot have been basking in the glow of indie-stardom. They really deserve it. The Portland, Oregon duo were ‘green-fabulous’ (is that in the same vein as, say…ghetto-fabulous? but for hipsters?) on their previous tour for biking between venues up and down the Pacific Northwest. Now, with updated van-esque transportation and a lineup that has swelled to nonet status, Blind Pilot have veered ON-course, selling out venues across the U.S. (I made it that far without a pun….sigh).
In other awesome news…Blind Pilot have been announced as the opening act for the Decemberists this summer. Watch out, your hyper-literates……

Ryan Adams – Extra Cheese [Ghost Of Electricity Alternate Mix]
Today be a Ryan Adams day. To truly make it a Ryan Adams day, I am going to recreate, to the best of my ability, Ryan’s upcoming Extra Cheese EP (using key alternate takes and choice live tracks).
K here goes….
Extra Cheese – Ghost of Electricity Alternate Mix
1. Two – Live in Boston, MA 9/7/2008
2. Blossom – Live in Morgantown, WV 5/17/2007
3. Answering Bell – Live in Jamaica 08/2002
4. Evergreen – Live in Southampton, England 11/22/2008
5. My Love For You Is Real – from the Cowboy Technical Sessions
6. Desire – from the unreleased album 48 Hours
7. Hey There, Mrs. Lovely – Live at the Tressel Tavern, Seattle 9/9/2000
Zip file [17 mb]
No one’s really sure what the EP will truly bring, just yet, but my hopes are for some alternate takes, unheard sessions and key live tracks…sorta what I culled here. It’s not much, and the Lost Highway camp isn’t rolling out the red carpet or anything, but any little bit of new music would be truly welcomed…. and at $3.99, that might just be worth it.
later, TDTD

Musings on Big Sur: Kerouac, Esalen, and CSNY
Mike’s been an expert wedding-attendee for a few years now, going to an absolutely ridiculous number of weddings (especially over the last two summers) and he’s naturally seen it all. Indoor, outdoor, rain, shine, quirky, dull…the list goes on.
Well, the most exciting wedding event to happen to Mike this summer (besides his own wedding to one of the greatest people ever, followed by my wedding to his sister, also one of the most amazing people ever) is going to take place in Big Sur, California, just a shade south of San Francisco. I’m jealous that he gets to cross the country and partake in some Pacific Coast goodness.
Whenever I think of Big Sur, I think of two things.
1) The Kerouac Novel of the same name, which, (quite the spoiler here) takes place in the seaside town.
and
2) The 1969 Big Sur Folk Festival that took place at the Esalen Institute, featuring Joan Baez, John Sebastian, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the Combs Sisters.
Here’s CSN&Y performing Neil Young’s “Down By The River”, in furious fashion.
ckick the HD button on the silver bar for some extra quality ^
Head over here to watch a majority of the film Celebration At Big Sur which was filmed in a “Woodstock”-esque style. Enjoy it. Just don’t drink the Kool-Aid.

Lead singer of Neutral Milk Hotel performed Sunday night in Columbus, OH
http://iguessimfloating.blogspot.com/2008/10/video-jeff-mangum-engine-live-102008.html
Some of you are aware that Apples In Stereo frontman Robert Schneider, a fellow resident of Lexington, KY and co-founder of Elephant 6 Recording Company with Mangum, has embarked on a brief tour called the Elephant 6 Orchestra presents: “Holiday Surprise”. Naturally, one would hope to see Mangum join the extensive orchestra (surprise!) and (so far) it looks like he has. I’m not sure what his role is within the show, which artist is playing what, or how all of the Elephant 6 musicians are performing but I’ll be sure to find out soon; luckily, the final tour date for the tour is this Thursday in Lexington at The Red Mile and it’s for FREE! You can bet I’ll be there getting the scoop, but until then you can watch Mangum performing “Engine” last night in Columbus, OH. He’s still lurking in the shadows but that doesn’t seem to matter when it sounds oh, so good.
Tour ending grand finale of a full length NMH concert in Lexington, anyone? I’d hope so!
