Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse light up the Brit Awards

The basket case and the producer put on a clinic at the Brit Awards on Wednesday night with Ms. Winehouse arriving onstage for the third song of Ronson’s three-song montage. Amy, looking slightly less like a deer in headlights than she did last week at the Grammy Awards, delivered a confident and coherent performance, perhaps reminding us that, in 2008, Ms. Trainwreck can indeed top the headlines with her voice, and not her indiscretions. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come…

Jeff Mangum (ex-Neutral Milk Hotel) surfaces, gets married

Jeff Mangum, Astra Taylor Married
By Jake Brown
January 9, 2008

Congratulations to Jeff Mangum and Astra Taylor, who were recently married. Mangum, as everybody knows, founded Neutral Milk Hotel, whose album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is widely regarded as one of the best albums of the 1990s. Taylor is a writer and filmmaker who directed the documentary, Zizek! for which Neutral Milk Hotel drummer Jeremy Barnes provided the original music.

Glorious Noise received confirmation of the nuptials from Ms. Taylor via email. “It’s a fact,” she said.

[I’d also like to speculate that “recently married” might actually mean within the last two years, but since we’re dealing with the reclusive songwriter here, this is breaking news to us…]
